Editorial Standards

How we report, verify, correct, and maintain the trust our readers place in us.

1 Our Commitment to Accuracy

Every factual claim published by National Herald must be verified by at least two independent sources before publication. Where a single source is used, this is clearly indicated. We do not publish claims we cannot verify, even when they may be newsworthy. When we are uncertain about a fact, we say so.

2 Independence and Conflicts of Interest

National Herald does not accept funding from political parties, government bodies, or organisations with a direct interest in our coverage. All commercial relationships — including advertising and sponsorship — are kept entirely separate from editorial decisions. No advertiser has any influence over our reporting.

3 Corrections Policy

When we make an error, we correct it promptly, prominently, and without qualification. Corrections appear on the original article page and in our weekly corrections log. We do not delete articles that contained errors — we correct them and note what was changed and when.

4 Sources and Anonymity

We name our sources wherever possible. When a source requests anonymity, we consider carefully whether the information justifies protecting their identity. We do not grant anonymity lightly, and we require that anonymous sources have direct knowledge of what they are telling us.

5 Fairness and Right of Reply

When we report allegations or criticism of an individual or organisation, we contact them in advance and give them a reasonable opportunity to respond. Their response, or their refusal to respond, is included in the article.

6 Separation of News and Opinion

National Herald clearly distinguishes between news reporting and opinion or analysis. News articles report facts without the journalist's personal views. Opinion pieces are clearly labelled and represent the views of the named author, not necessarily those of National Herald.

7 Privacy

We respect individuals' right to privacy. We do not publish private information about individuals unless there is clear public interest that outweighs that right. We do not use material obtained through unlawful means.

8 Complaints

If you believe National Herald has breached these standards, please contact our editorial team at editorial@nationalherald.co.uk. We aim to respond within five working days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may refer your complaint to IPSO.
