n

2026-27 Rates

n

**Eldest or only child:** 26.05 pounds per week (1,354.60 per year)

n

**Additional children:** 17.25 pounds per week each (897 per year)

n

The High Income Child Benefit Charge

n

The HICBC claws back Child Benefit from households where the highest earner has adjusted net income above 60,000 pounds.

n

Between 60,000 and 80,000 pounds: 1% charge for every 200 pounds of income above 60,000. Above 80,000: full clawback.

n

Why You Should Claim Anyway

n

Claim even if affected by the HICBC because it protects your National Insurance record and ensures your child receives an NI number at 16.

n

How to Claim

n

Claim online through GOV.UK. Claims can be backdated up to three months. Start the claim as soon as possible after the birth.
